Program Note:
I have always been interested in limits: how far you can push yourself, how much information you can retain, and how art can illuminate such extremes. I attempted to portray Jean Valentine’s The Tower Roof in a way that honored this concept of the vast unknown and the idea that there are extreme limits to us as human beings. The title, I believe, pertains to the idea that even the highest tower has roof.
The Tower Roof
No music
no memory
not all your art
not not
your iron story
can fold you into the galaxy
saved by yourself
lost by yourself
your iron words hero and chorus
This far and no farther.
