Program Note:

I wanted to write a piece that was relevant in both the past and the present. Since the beginning of time, humans have done wrong and had to ask for forgiveness. Still, in today’s world, we find ourselves in situations for which we must apologize. Sometimes we do harm without even realizing it, and other times it is intended. Nonetheless, apologizing may be a very difficult thing to do, but to forgive someone may be even more arduous. ‘Forgiven Tears’ explores the difficulty and frustration of forgiveness, the struggle to admit what we’ve done wrong, and the willingness to lose everything in order to clear one’s conscience.

Arise, cry out in the night;
in the beginning of the watches pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord;
lift up your hands toward him for the life of your young children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street.
